James Bennet Joins NY Times, Andrew Rosenthal Steps Down

Rosenthal will focus on writing columns.

The siren song of the New York Times is impossible to ignore. Hours after learning the Times was trying to bring The Atlantic’s editor James Bennet back, it’s official — he’ll return as editorial page editor.

Andrew Rosenthal, who served as editorial page editor for the past decade, has stepped down from the role. Instead, he’ll be writing more columns, covering a wide array of subjects.

“I feel very honored to have served in this position for longer than any editorial page editor in the modern history of The Times and during a period of such sweeping change, both in our business and in the world we cover,” said Rosenthal, in a statement.
