Over-the-Top Streaming App Popcornflix Surpasses 10 Million Download Mark

You can avoid advertising altogether if you are willing to pony up for Netflix and Amazon Prime; or, if you prefer free content and are willing to watch commercials, there are alternatives like Popcornflix.

There are more viewers willing to watch advertising than industry executives would have you believe. Screen Media Ventures announced recently that Popcornflix – its free, ad-supported, TV and movie over-the-top app – has been downloaded more than 10 million times across Roku, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android, iOS, Samsung, Windows 8, Google TV and Panasonic Smart TVs. Almost half of these downloads have been on Roku alone.

“10 million app downloads is a significant accomplishment,” noted David Fannon, Executive Vice President at Popcornflix. “Our streaming service has become a popular choice in a relatively short time because we offer people access to great movies and TV shows, all for free. Today’s viewers are looking for entertainment on their own terms, delivered to the devices they choose when they want to watch, and Popcornflix comes through with fan-favorite movies and TV shows that provide hours of entertainment.”

Along with affiliate apps FrightPix and Popcornflix Kids, Popcorn Flix provides a compelling platform for advertisers trying to reach younger audiences who are increasingly turning to over-the-top, unbundled, content solutions.
