Best Buy had to pull a misguided tweet today that referenced the hit podcast Serial— which is based on a murder that happened outside one of its stores—a familiar exercise for many gaffe-prone brands.

As to be expected, consumers weren't happy with the brand making light of the real-life killing that is investigated in the podcast. In 1999, high schooler Hae Min Lee was murdered in a Best Buy parking lot in Maryland, and prosecutors have said the killer made a call from a payphone outside the store after strangling the girl.
