Amazon Acquires Twitch for $970 Million
After months of speculation, Amazon acquired Twitch in a surprise deal that allows Twitch to maintain some autonomy.
Amazon has acquired Twitch, ending months of speculation about Google courting the video streaming company. The purchase is for approximately $970 million, and the deal will reportedly allow Twitch to retain its autonomy.
Twitch CEO Emmett Shear wrote in a blog post:
We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence.
