Divine intervention or good storytelling? ’60 Minutes’ Easter broadcast up 24%

By Chris Ariens

According to Nielsen Fast National overnight ratings, “60 Minutes” drew 10.32 million total viewers last night, up +24% from last Easter’s 8.3 million.

Last night’s show featured a two-part Bob Simon story on the Monks of Mt. Athos, a story Simon spent two years trying to secure. The monks last granted a TV interview in 1981. The third piece was a Morley Safer profile of billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad. Last Easter’s broadcast had no religious — or even philanthropic — element to it.

If you caught the show you experienced an amazing look at the secluded monasteries of Mt. Athos in Greece. Simon and his crew spent 10 days on the peninsula. Just how did the “60 Minutes” crew do it? A Greek-speaking producer helps. Click continued to see the “60 Minutes Overtime” piece.
