Former Tucson Reporters Plead Guilty to Child Endangerment

Som and Krystin Rae Lisaius plead guilty to child endangerment charges Wednesday in a Tucson courtroom.

The couple were facing three criminal charges including child abuse after being charged in June when their 4-month-old daughter was found to have cocaine in her system.

Tucson News Now reports child abuse and drug possession charges would be dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.

“You both agree that your behavior was reckless by using cocaine and then knowingly – you, of course, Ms. Lisaius – breastfeeding the child the next morning, that constituted endangering the child, recklessly endangering her?” asked the Pima County Superior Court Judge.

Som Lisaius had worked at Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD for 16 years. Krystin Rae Lisauis had been a reporter at ABC affiliate KGUN.

“They’ve been going through regular drug testing,” said the couple’s attorney Mike Piccarreta. “They’ve been going through parenting classes. They have gone through counseling. … Anytime anyone even hints they want something done, they step up and do it.”

The couple took the baby to a local hospital after she became unresponsive. Krystin Lisaius told police she breastfed her baby after ingesting cocaine the night before.

Police found 1.59 grams cocaine and a small black digital scale among other pieces of suspected drug paraphernalia in the house after obtaining a search warrant.
