Sacramento Anchor Resigns After DUI Arrest

Three months after his arrest on suspicion of DUI, Mark S. Allen has resigned from Good Day Sacramento on CBS-owned CW affiliate KMAX.

On-air this morning, Allen told viewers he wanted to tell “the community, my friends and family and station management I am so sorry.” He says he recently completed a month-long sobriety program.

“My next step is hard one,” Allen said while getting emotional. “I’ve decided to hang up my Good Day hat. I feel it’s best to make a clean break right now and focus my time and energy on taking care of myself and my family.”

Allen was pulled off air in December after being arrested for suspicion of DUI in Roseville, Calif. He was arrested once before for DUI in 2006.

He pleaded no contest and told the Sacramento Bee he’s thankful “no one was hurt that night, and there wasn’t an accident.”

As part of his sentence, he’ll pay a penalty of “thousands and thousands of dollars.” He was placed on four years probation, have to do community service, electronic monitoring and 18 months of DUI classes.
